The Fair Trade Fair will look a lot like this--minus the Boston College coeds. |
An
established tradition in the Unitarian
Universalist Congregation’s former home in Woodstock, the annual Fair
Trade and Local Gifts and Craft Sale comes to the church’s new home in McHenry, 5603 Bull
Valley Road, this Saturday, November 17 from 1
to 4 pm.
Sponsored annually by the congregation’s Green Sanctuary Committee, the sale offers fair
trade craft items from around the world;
gourmet coffee, tea and chocolates; and fine locally produced
items.
“We offer one of a kind, hard to find items at
exceptional prices just in time for the holiday season,” said Green Sanctuary Chair Caron Wenzel.
At 6 pm, after the Fair, Green Sanctuary will be
sponsoring an organic/local pot luck.
Dishes should try to include as many organic and/or local ingredients as
possible. Diners should bring their own
table service. Directly following the
dinner the film, Water on the Table will be shown. The film explores Canada’s relationship to fresh water
featuring Canadian activist, Maude
Barlow, in her pursuit to protect water from privatization and her
contention that water is a human right.
The sale will reopen privately for congregation
members from 5 to 6 pm and again
after Sunday services.
Green Sanctuary is the UU Congregation’s environmental ministry. It does
educational programming for the congregation and community, supports the
efforts of local environmental organization, volunteers in hands-on community
ecological projects, and advocates for strong environmental protection.
