Invitations are in the mail
and circulating on social media for
a ceremony “to bear witness to love and commitment at the marriages of our LBGT
friends and family” as part of religious services at the Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry on Sunday, June 8.
That is the first service after McHenry County residents can legally
obtain a marriage license for same gender unions from the McHenry County Clerk’s office.
The Rev. Sean Parker Dennison and the congregation are excited by the
opportunity. “We can’t wait to be part of joyful
celebrations. It’s a natural extension of Tree of Life’s commitment to
justice and equality.” The congregation
was a leader in the drive to pass marriage equality in McHenry County.
Several couples have already committed to
participate, Dennison said, “but there is room for more and we want to hear
from any couples who wish to share their joy and special moments with us.”
Rev. Dennison will lead the service, but each
couple will also have their own co-officiator and exchange their own vows. “We want a personal experience, not a mass
wedding.”
The congregation will host a joyous reception
following the marriage ceremonies.

couples being married, or to arrange other wedding services contact the church
