In response to the shooting of
Michael Brown, an unarmed and unresisting teen ager with his hands raised, and
the subsequent actions by police in Ferguson, Missouri, The Tree of Life Unitarian
Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry will join in the National
Moment of Silence vigil that well be held across the country at 6:00 this
evening, Thursday, August 14, 2014.
“It’s important to let the world
know we stand in solidarity not only with the community in Missouri, but Black communities across the
country who feel besieged by aggressive and discriminatory police action,” the
Rev. Sean Parker Dennison said.
“I would encourage everyone who can
make to join in the mass vigil that will be held in Chicago this evenings beginning
at 6 pm at the Daily Center Plaza,” Dennison added, “But we know many people
might not be able to make that trip because of work commitments, health, and
transportation difficulties. Those can
join us on the grounds of our church at 6:00 with the national moment of
silence at 6:20.
“Be prepared to share, sing, and be
in silence together as we once again stand on the side of love.”
