A Ten Year Flashback to Blog’s Early Days—Surprise! Meet Murf the Military Pundit

NoteI was going to throw in the towel, or at least the crumpled Kleenex, and declare a sick day here at the Blog.  Then I got an idea of giving you all a flashback ten years to when Heretic, Rebel, a Thing to Flout was a shiny new thing.  It was on LiveJournal, even then a dying platform.  I had, on my very best days, a corporal’s guard of readers, mostly local McHenry County folks I knew from Church, the Democratic Party, or anti-war work.  I posted sporadically and I hoped to build a following a something of a pundit.  Delusions of grandeur.  So this post was not so unusual.  Presumptuous as hell, maybe, but not unusual.  It was an analysis of Donald Rumsfeld plans for the evolving military.  It is surprising that so much of the plan, and my analysis of it has held up in the intervening decade. The big miss was on potential conflict with Western Europe—the return to bellicose aggressiveness of Putin’s Russia and the unexpected refusal of the Islamic world to stay put down, has probably resulted in closer cooperation than ever.    Anyway, Judge for yourself.
To give you a feel for the creaky old Blog, Beta version, instead of reposting the text from a February 5, 2006 post, I am posting the link so you can see for yourself what it was like.
