The
Unitarian Universalist Congregation in
McHenry, 5603 Bull Valley Road will launch the first session of Haystack’s Coffee House Open Mic and Jam
Night on Friday, February 8 from
7 to 10 pm. The name recalls the former Haystack Manor restaurant which
previously occupied the building.
“This event will take place in our beautiful coffee shop and
concert area, where coffee, tea and soft drinks will be served,” according to Thomas Steffens speaking for the Music Committee of the congregation.
“The evening will feature local performers showing their skills as folk,
R&R, jazz, classical musicians, comedians and poets.”
As a matter of fact, I will be a culprit committing poetry.
Anyone will be welcome to take the stage and perform. Those
performing alone or those having a small group should arrive between 6:30 and
6:45 to sign in. There will be a limit on the total number of acts
performing with each act limited 10 minutes. Several times during the evening,
there will be a jam for all who want to perform in a large group musical
number.
An acoustic piano and a sound system will be provided.
The event is free and open to the public but a free will
offering will be accepted.
