Mark Your Calendars for Ride/Walk to Leave a Light On Supporting Community Organizations

The Ride/Walk to Leave a Light On will return to Woodstock, Illinois for the third year on Friday, June 16.  Folks will gather on Woodstock Square beginning at 7:30 pm with the ride starting in the gloaming at 8:40.

The event is presented by Material Things Artisan Market on the Woodstock Square Historic District to support our local community organizations—CASA of McHenry County, Live4Lali, Woodstock Pride, Illinois Migrant Council, Stairway to Prosperity, The Break, and Compassion 4 Campers by purchasing colored light strings that correspond with each organization. All proceeds go to them. Each string is $9.00

Lights:

Purple-Live4Lali

Gold-Crystal Lake "The Break"

White- Illinois Migrant Council

Multi Color- Woodstock Pride

Red- CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)

Green- Stairway to Prosperity

Blue- Compassion 4 Campers

You can sign up to ride with the organization of your choice and solicit sponsors for your participation.

The ride route wends its way through the neighborhood streets of Woodstock beginning and ending at the Square.  It is not a race or competition, just a pleasant ride.  There will be musical entertainment on the bandstand as riders and walkers return to the Square.

Tree of Life UU Congregation and Live4Lali Offer Free Narcan Training and Kits

 

Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation and Live4Lali will be provide free Narcan kits and training at the church, 5603 West Bull Valley Road in McHenry this Saturday afternoon October 8 at 2 pm. 

Live4Lali is the organization that works to reduce stigma and prevent substance use disorder among individuals, families, and communities, and to minimize the overall health, legal, and social harms associated with substance use.

“The opioid crisis continues to needlessly claim lives in McHenry County and around the country.  But we all can save lives by learning to use emergency Narcan kits which administer a life-saving jolt to revive those in overdose crisis,” said Patrick Murfin, Tree of Life Social Justice Team Chair, “You may think you will never need this, but you never know who in your life may be in crisis.   A lot of folks keep kits in their cars, homes, and businesses.   We will offer free training in their safe and effective use.”

The program and kits are free, and the event is open to the public.  Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
