Greetings
from Dallas, Texas which despite rumors is still part of the United States. My wife Kathy and I are ensconced at the Hyatt Regency at the Dallas/Fort
Worth Airport. Kathy attended her
annual Catholic Religious Educators conference earlier this week and I flew
in Thursday night to join her for a short vacation.
For
the first time in a year, I seem to have come down with my first full blown cold of the year which has
slowed me up some. And the hot—surprise!—weather made being outside unpleasant. Yet we soldiered
on.

Yesterday
we spent the day at the JFK Sixth Floor
Museum at the Texas School Book
Depository, Dealey Plaza, and a nearby little
gem of a Holocaust Museum. Kind of a somber but moving and significant experience. Then we went to the Bishop Arts District, a few blocks of hip shops, galleries, restaurants, and bars. Hipsters, tourists,
and local residents, mostly Hispanic mixed freely. We ate at a pizza and Italian place because
Kathy, who is on a diet, couldn’t get anything she could eat at a smoke house. It was OK, but Chicago has nothing to
worry about if this is the best Texas has to offer.
Today
will be steamy as well and possible big thunderstorms
this afternoon. But we are heading
to Fort Worth and a mostly inside
day at the Aamon Carter Museum and
other places in their Cultural District.
Naturally,
it will cool off here to the low ‘80’s
on Sunday when we fly back home.
One
result of our mini-vacation may be a
disruption of posts here for the
next couple of days. I’ll try to get something up, but it may not be possible.
Meanwhile,
wishing you all a great Memorial Day
Weekend.
