Look for new opportunities for action, education, community, and solidarity here every week.
Anti-ICE and Military Occupation Protests. ICE/Border Patrol/Secret Police continue aggressive patrolling and kidnappings and continue to use gas, pepper balls, and violence indiscriminately in neighborhoods and near schools. The Border Patrol satrap virtually dares the court to try to enforce its orders. Daily protests continue at the Broadview receiving/detention center, in and around the Loop, and in communities across the region. Be aware of local alerts from the McHenry County Rapid Response team.
Whistle Kit and Know Your Rights event will be held Saturday, November 8 from 2-2:30 pm at First Congregational Church (FCC) of Crystal Lake, 461 Pierson Street. Join the McHenry County Rapid Response Team and FCC’s Immigration Solidarity Taskforce to make warning whistle kits to take back to your community for residents and witnesses.
Responding to a Hunger Crisis—The Government Shutdown and the suspension of SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) payments and multiple other stressors have created an immediate hunger crisis. In McHenry County all local pantries are appealing for emergency donations. For a list of local pantries with driving instructions look here. In addition Warp Corp in Woodstock needs donations for its emergency Street Outfit Project center in the old Train Station as does the Woodstock Library and some local school pantries. Compassion for Campers can help get non-perishable food to the unhoused population via the Community Resource Day events on Fridays at Willow Creek Crystal Lake. Everyone can use cash donations.
